Since more than two centuries the United States of America was able to create its own philosophy. There were great philosophers and genuine philosophies that justify an interest in American philosophy, particularly when we know that significant contemporary intellectual movements have been derived from it, in epistemology, education, linguistics, hermeneutics, ethics and politics, besides philosophy itself.
This book is a version of a third version which was reviewed and included an addition comprising a part that surveys the period 1976-1996 where American philosophical problems were treated such as: The identity of the American philosopher, the American contribution to the philosophy of the city, and the philosophy of the minorities: The Afro-American philosophy, The Indian philosophy and the philosophy of feminism. Furthermore, a problem which is at the center of contemporary philosophical debate is dealt with, namely, the problem of the foundation of philosophy: Faith, knowledge and power.
